DEFENDERS OF CHILDREN PRIVACY STATEMENT

Defenders believes that protecting the privacy of our Donors is a very legitimate concern. Out of respect for that concern, we offer this Privacy Policy And Practices Statement  to reassure our donors about exactly what personal information we will receive, and how we will safeguard that personal information after a donor makes a donation of either monies or professional services.

Personally identifiable information. "Personally identifiable information" is information about you, such as name, address, e-mail address, user ID, credit card number, and so on, that you provide to secure online payment processors, PayPal or Authorize.net, in order to make a donation by credit card.  PayPal and Authorize.net have their own security and privacy policies about protecting your personal information. (see PayPal's policy) (see Authorize.net's policy) If you have donated through either of these certified credit card processors, you have voluntarily provided information and consented to the collection and use of your personally identifiable information in order for them to process your credit card donation, as described in their privacy statement.

Information that is collected, used, and disclosed.  When Defenders of Children receives a notice from either credit card processor that a donation has been made, the donor information disclosed to Defenders is limited to the name of the donor, the amount of the donation, the billing address of the donor, the email address of the donor and any instructions the donor may include restricting the use of the donation, as well as shipping information for the delivery of any goods. Since Defenders of Children is a non-profit organization, donations are tax deductible in the US, less the value of any goods received. We use the personal information described above to send a written acknowledgment of charitable donations for tax purposes at year end, in order to comply with IRS requirements. We do not sell or rent personal information collected this way to anyone.
Internally, we will restrict access to your personally identifiable information to employees who need access to the information in order to do their jobs. These employees are limited in number, and are committed to our privacy policies.

Professional services donations  If you wish to donate professional services on a pro-bono or sliding-fee scale, the information you provide on our volunteer form will be kept confidential, and used for internal purposes only. Some nonpersonal, nonidentifiable information may be aggregated on occasion for use in grant applications made by this agency.
